If any of you followed the Samuel Williams link, that picture was taken at about the time dad was there - and the small boat on the left of the picture are the tugs he used to work on repairing.

“I leave you alone for the day, and just look at this mess! The toilet paper’s shredded, there’s trash all over the floor, a team of squirrels is running a telemarketing call center from the guest bedroom, and a man outside wants to know where to install my weapons-grade uranium centrifuge!”

Did you order these 24 pizzas, Emily D.?

I never do that.
This is the epitomy of suck. I am sick, have been since Wednesday night. Chills, sinus headache, cannot sleep for more than 30-45 minutes. Cannot sleep now at all. (No fever!). Should at at a tea house with A. and her parents and Gramma. Instead, I am here too sick to watch college football or browse the web much. To top it off, I have not had a drink in a week. Otherwise I might understand.
I did rally enough to eat Wednesday night and Thursday late afternoon.
Today has been a half a turkey sandwich and some pickles.

Vert, a crane volant contourny, wings addorsed and on a chief argent three Japanese maple leaves gules.
There was some question about the registerability of Japanese maples leaves and whether they were known to Europeans in period. Eastern Crown provided some research into the question, which is summarized here:
In the late Ming period (1368-1644), Chinese porcelains were exported to Europe and Japan by the Dutch and Portuguese, and earlier to the Middle East. Japanese imari ware was first exported by the Dutch East India company c. 1650, with more than 50,000 pieces exported by 1659. Maples were listed as a common motif in imari ware. [Goro Shimura, The Story of Imari: The Symbols and Mysteries of Antique Japanese Porcelain; http://books.google.com/books?id=p9JqaK
An example of 16th C (Momoyama Period) lacquerware that was produced for the European market is in the Kyoto Museum [http://www.kyohaku.go.jp/eng/syuzou/me
Therefore, we are giving the submitter the benefit of the doubt: Japanese maple leaves are allowed as flora native to Asia, but known to Europeans in period. They will be considered artistic variants of European maple leaves, blazoned, but not granting difference.
There is a step from period practice for use of the Japanese maple leaves, which are non-European flora not known to be used as charges in period European heraldry.
The stupidest comment of the day was, "Get rid of left-overs!" This was from a representative member of the Food-Gestopo who appears on "The Biggest Loser." Ok, I get the fact that America, statistically, has a weight problem. We're obese, or at least that's what were told. But in this economy, getting rid of food is foolish. My Thankgiving dinner represents many other meals--lunch and dinner. The Turkey will be cut-up and made into Turkey pot pie, which will be dinner for Sunday, and my lunch for at least a couple of days after. Much of the rest will become turkey-soup, some of which will be frozen.
I submit it's not that you have left-over from this holiday meal, it's how you eat them.
Look, I've lost weight through exercise and paying attention to how I eat, not through being stupid. Now, stop reading this, and go out for a walk.

A Fun History Lesson
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be.
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery.......if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor"
But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot...........they "didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.

Yes, even you.

Second Quarter: Actual Thanksgiving dinner
Halftime Show: Alice's Restaurant, in full

Fourth Quarter: Picking at the leftovers
I may not make it to the fourth quarter. Ye gods and little fishes. And to think, there was a period when discussion centered on "Will we have enough food?" Harmony Drive for the win.
I am thankful for many people, and for many things. Every person reading this is one of the people for whom I am thankful. You brighten a sometimes challenging existence. Thank you for being part of my life, and may the worst of next year be no worse than the best of this year.

Coco the Boston Terrier has some guidelines for you to make it through Thanksgiving successfully.
1. Unbuttoned pants (or cataloons) so stomach can expand beyond normal perameters.
2. Take a short nap.
3. Eat a large dessert.

I'll have twice as much square footage as I do now (on paper at least - I'm feeling better about it being roomier than it looks), my own front (and back) doors, 3 floors, 2.5 bathrooms (though the single tub is one of the new-style, shallow deals), a dishwasher, a clothes washer and dryer, a whole room devoted to storage, and even a sort-of back yard.
And I even get a rent discount because I work for Drexel!

1-My user name is _________ because_________.
Debris4spike
Debris = I'm "slightly" accident prone, and the conductor of Bude orchestra gave me this name when he met me!
4 Spike = That's what I am a Spike fan and how I came to LJ-land.
2-My name is ________because________.
Deborah - My parents wanted a name from the bible, that was also around in the era I was born. I know quite a few Deborahs (all on LJ - waves) and we are all about the same age!
Jacqueline - My parents wanted a J theme as my dad is John, and everyone presumed I would be John if a boy - which my parents didn't want anyway! His middle name is James (yay!) ... and this is the femanine version!
They did debate adding Victoria as a 3rd name, but decided it would be toooooo long - although I would have loved it! Both may grandmothers had Victoria as their second name.
3-My Journal & Friends page title's are________because________.
Eternal Refuge = To combine my faith with my love of Spuffy!!!! Yes, it works.
The Spike - Buffy story, to me, is a love story. And from Spikes eyes he would do anything for her - eternally as he's a vampire - and let her take everything to him as her "refuge"
My faith - to me eternity is Heaven - I have an eternal life, after death with God ... and that is my refuge that I know is always there - something I CAN rely on.
My f-list is called My Friends - as I told Kuda, some of you are the people who I would call my closest friends I have.
4-My default user pic is_________becuase________.
I may have come to LJ a Spike fan ... but now it is everything about James! I took this photo this May at Union Chapel - and kazzy_cee made the icon as a special request. She has made quite a few of my specials, and I like her work ... and her willingness.
Its great to have a picture I took, of a man I love, done in a unique way. Thanks Kazzy!

Also, we took a boatload of money from the game's most incompetent NPC plotter to assassinate the lord of the manor. Stabbity stabbity! He should have died, but the PCs magicked him. They did not magic us, resulting in untimely deaths for the poor wandering minstrels of questionable morals.
Did you know there's an old Zdunarovan folk song that sounds remarkably like this anthem of geekdom? Trufax. We filked it as "Brave Hugo." :D
