I'm writing a fanfic set in the Buffy'verse at an SCA event. There will be a scene with someone researching the uses of herbs and plants in mediveal lore and I wanted to know if there was anything that was particularly controversial in that area. This is so totally not my area of expertise, so any help you (or friends of yours) can give will be greatly appreciated. Anyway, the question is: Are there plants and herbs that used to be accepted in SCA lore as authentic that later were found not to be for one reason or another? Or, is there a SCA use of an herb or plant that was later to be found not to be used that way? And what about using herbs and plants in simple country charms and things like that?

Anyway, I got sucked into involved in writing an audio drama for the Buffy'verse depicting what might have happened between Seasons 5 and 6.
